Overview:
The Mission Assurance Engineer will operate without appreciable direction, exercising considerable latitude in determining technical objectives. This position will provide oversight of all aspects of programs having to do with assuring 100% success of Aerojet supplied hardware. Mission Assurance is a disciplined application of systems engineering, system safety, reliability engineering, manufacturability, risk management, quality assurance, lessons learned and program management principles to achieve 100% mission success.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
40% - Execute a Value Stream approach to Mission Assurance with emphasis on proactive Risk Management throughout the various program life-cycles.
20% - Conduct independent reviews and assessments of program team processes to identify mission assurance concerns, assure that root causes are understood, and timely/effective corrective and preventive actions are defined.
10% - Work with Engineering and Operations to implement proven tools, such as Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing techniques and Apollo Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to reduce cycle time, improve yield, and reduce non-conformances (NC).
10% - Act as primary point of contact for assigned Aerojet program to the customer's Mission Assurance organization to assure flowdown of mission assurance disciplines/requirements and timely reporting/resolution of mission assurance concerns.
10% - Perform weekly reviews of mission assurance concerns with Aerojet functional team leads and customer mission assurance/technical representatives. Provide Aerojet/Customer management with weekly status reports.
Secondary Job Functions:
5% - Coordinate Quality Council agenda and tracking of action items status.
5% - Establish and maintain Mission Assurance metrics for monthly Quality Council review.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline/science and nine years of directly related technical experience in engineering disciplines (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Experience with rocket propulsion and customer mission needs is strongly preferred. Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt certification or equivalent with hands-on experience in Value Stream Mapping techniques preferred. Experience in Risk Management including working knowledge of risk matrices (“risk cubes”), risk registers and developing product/process risk profiles desired. Working knowledge of Design/Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (D/PFMEA) techniques and usage required. The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience in conducting RCA, preferably using the Apollo or RealityCharting RCA method, and experience with Voice of the Customer (VOC) workshops or equivalent. Must be effective in interpersonal communications at all levels of the organization, including customers, suppliers, government and industry contacts. Familiarity with industry quality standards and tools such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, DFSS, AS9100 and Design for Manufacture (DFM) are highly desired. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
