Optical Test Engineer

Reports To
Optical Systems Team/Group Leader
Responsible
For
Development and operation of optical calibration and testing facilities for space-
borne optical systems. Verification that optical systems perform to design
specifications. Providing technical expertise in testing and product knowledge.
Key Tasks
Primary Responsibilities
·
Test verification of various sensor and optical system performance metrics,
including:
relative and absolute alignment of modules and submodules
stray light performance
image quality performance.
·
Define or assist in the definition of test procedures and test plans.
·
Review test processes as they are developed.
·
Assist in the automation of relevant test procedures.
·
Manage discrepancy reporting under the guidance of senior engineers.
·
Write specifications, reports, quality and related documents.
·
Define and manage the programmatic and technical aspects of Work
packages relevant to area of expertise.
PERSON SPECIFICATION (essential requirements)
Qualifications
·
MSc in Applied Optics or Physics with a concentration in optics preferred,
however BSc and suitable relevant experience will be considered.
Experience
·
Optical design experience with proficiency in Zemax is desirable.
·
Knowledge of stray light analysis software (e.g. FRED) and of SolidWorks
2009 or 2010 is a plus.
Knowledge
and Skills
·
Comprehensive knowledge of sensor and optical system testing
methodologies.
·
Knowledge of optical engineering, applied to space applications, coupled
with a working knowledge of the other engineering disciplines.
·
Knowledge of Industry Standards.
·
Familiarity with discrepancy reporting processes.
·
Knowledge of Quality Management mechanisms.
·
Able to review and critique optical systems.
·
Good team player; able to work in a close-knit teams with design, analysis,
integration and test engineers.
·
Good communication and inter-personal skills.
·
Ability to plan and manage own work.

Please note this role is based at our Optical Payload facility in Sevenoaks, Kent.
