Responsible
For
To manage studies / small projects related to optical instrumentation for space or key
aspects of a project from proposal preparation through to kick-off and successful contract
completion.
Key Tasks
· To manage studies / small projects or key aspects of a project from proposal
preparation through to delivery.
· To be responsible for all aspects of the project or part of a project within the
established procedures & processes developed within SSTL (including schedules,
budget setting and cost controlling, deliverables lists, management plans,
management of risks, etc).
· Breaking down work into a work breakdown structure and appropriate work packages.
Obtaining agreements with engineering teams on tasks, budgets and schedules within
each work package.
· Management of the engineering team to meet the project deliverable on time and to
cost.
· Co-ordinating and chairing progress meetings and project reviews with customer.
· Responsibility for action items and risk lists.
· Active monitoring & management of the project progress and milestone deliveries.
· Support the preparation of cost packs during bid phase and controlling budgets
together with regular update of project controlling budgets.
· Providing reports to Project Director and heads of Business Line Managers.
· Assisting in bid preparation and/or providing the programmatic elements of bids.
PERSON SPECIFICATION (essential requirements)
Qualifications
· Degree or equivalent in an engineering or technical subject.
Experience
· Project management in an engineering/aerospace industry an advantage but not
essential as this role is to allow a candidate with relevant technical background in
optics / optical instrumentation to move into project management.
· Familiarity with work package systems and matrix management structure.
Knowledge &
Skills
· Technical background from engineering/aerospace industry.
· Excellent inter-personal skills; able to influence, persuade and negotiate with all levels
of people effectively.
· Ability to cope under pressure and ensure deadlines are met.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Good organisation skills.
· Good presentation skills.
· Highly results orientated; strong drive to deliver.
· Proficient in all MS Office packages and Microsoft Project.
