Key Purpose
Of Job
· Project & Programme Management.
· To ensure the delivery of projects and bids, principally within the Telecommunications
& Navigation Business Unit within SSTL.
· To support the pursuit of active prospects within the Telecommunications &
Navigation business.
· To manage, mentor and develop junior project managers.
· To ensure timely and appropriate communication to SSTL customers and
stakeholders, including Head of Business and Account Managers.
Key Tasks
Project Management
· Managing Telecommunications & Navigation projects.
· To provide first line cover for other project managers running GEO projects.
· To support compliance to SSTL procedures for projects and engineering.
· To support Bid activities for the GEO business line.
Reporting
· Line reporting to Projects Director.
· Reporting to Telecommunications & Navigation Head of Business as Core Team
member responsible for project delivery.
Success Criteria (18 months)
· Delivery of projects and bids to agreed schedules, costs and quality.
· Delivery of goals in assessment and development of project management capability in
the area to maximise potential for undertaking project management at SSTL.
PERSON SPECIFICATION (essential requirements)
Qualifications
· None specifically but a degree or equivalent in an engineering or technical subject
would be preferable.
Experience
· Proven experience in project management specifically in setting up, running and
successfully delivering projects, ideally in a satellite or engineering/aerospace
industry.
· Experience of working in the telecommunications industry would be a benefit, but not
essential.
· Experience of working on ESA projects also a benefit, but not essential.
· Good experience of implementing contracts.
· Familiarity with work package systems and matrix management structure preferable.
· Track record of personnel development preferred.
Knowledge &
Skills
· Around 5yrs experience in project management in an engineering/aerospace industry.
· Excellent inter-personal skills; able to influence, persuade and negotiate with all levels
of people effectively.
· Understand contracts and product assurance plans.
· Ability to cope under pressure and ensure deadlines are met.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Good organisation skills.
· Good presentation and customer facing skills.
· Highly results orientated; strong drive to deliver.
· Proficient in all MS Office packages and knowledge of Microsoft Project.
