Overview:
Based on specific stated objectives perform analysis, design, or test of one or more complex materials, structural components or functional systems of company products. Without detailed direction, study basic design concepts and criteria for assigned complex materials, components, or functional systems to ascertain the engineering principles involved and to adopt features from previously successful designs of a similar nature. With general direction, plan, prepare, and complete the design of assigned complex components and functional systems. Study the operation of systems, select major components to meet functional and operational requirements, and determine the optimum location and arrangement from an engineering, manufacturing, and service standpoint. Direct the more detailed analysis and design and follow up to assure compliance with original philosophy and good engineering practices. Develop general test program to evaluate new materials of products.
Job Description:Position will be an integral part of Orbital's new Antares commercial launch vehicle program. The candidate will contribute to general systems engineering activities, specifically in the areas of system integration, requirements management, and requirements verification. The candidate will interface with external customers and internal associates in engineering and program management. The candidate will maintain requirement specifications and ICDs at various levels of integration, and perform requirements tracing and verification activities associated with them. The candidate will be required to apply engineering principles to assess design compliance of a complex aerospace system, as well as the individual components that comprise the system. Other duties as assigned. The job may entail significant support of field and launch operations at the Wallops Island launch facility. Although the job is posted for the Dulles, VA location, a home location at Wallops Island, VA or Chandler, AZ are also options.
Preferred Qualifications:
BS in Systems/Aerospace/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or other appropriate technical degree. Experience with Systems Engineering of complex aerospace systems is desirable. Experience using requirements management software, such as DOORS or CRADLE, is a plus.
Qualifications:Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited institution plus a minimum of four (4) years of related technical experience. This candidate must be capable of leading/coordinating a group activity, have excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal and written), and be competent utilizing standard Office software products. Ability to proactively interface with a multi-disciplinary, diverse community of engineers and managers in the pursuit of focused, time-critical task is required.
